Clothing sizes vary significantly between countries and brands. Use this guide to find the right US, UK, and EU size before you shop. All measuring tips follow the methods used by major retailers — measure snugly but not tight, and always size up when you're between sizes. Shirts, Tops & Sweaters

How to measure: Wrap a flexible tape measure around the fullest part of your chest, just under your armpits and across your shoulder blades. Keep the tape parallel to the floor and breathe normally — this is the same method used by Gap and Nike. For the best fit, round up to the next size if you fall between two measurements.

How to measure: For waist, measure around your natural waistline — the narrowest part of your torso, typically about 1" above your belly button. For inseam, measure from the crotch seam straight down to the ankle bone. Levi's recommends measuring over lightweight clothing and rounding to the nearest inch.

How to measure: Trace your foot on a piece of paper while standing, then measure from the heel to the longest toe. Nike recommends measuring both feet in the afternoon (feet swell throughout the day) and using the larger measurement. Always measure in the socks you plan to wear with the shoes.

Dresses, Coats & Jackets

How to measure: For dresses, measure your chest, natural waist, and fullest part of your hips. For coats and jackets, measure your chest and add 2–4" for layering. Gap recommends fitting a coat over the heaviest sweater or blazer you plan to wear underneath. When in doubt, size up — it's easier to tailor a coat down than up.

Hats & Caps

How to measure: Wrap a soft tape measure around your head, approximately 1" above your eyebrows and ears — this is how New Era sizes their fitted caps. Keep the tape snug but not tight. If you're between sizes, choose the larger size for comfort. Most baseball-style adjustable caps are one-size-fits-most but fitted caps require your exact head circumference.

Adjustable / snapback caps: Most one-size-fits-most caps fit 54–60 cm (6 3/4 – 7 1/2). Flex-fit caps typically come in S/M (54–57 cm) and L/XL (58–61 cm).

Gloves & Mittens

How to measure: Wrap a flexible tape measure around the widest part of your palm, just below the knuckles, excluding the thumb. Measure in inches — this number is your glove size. Most glove manufacturers, including Carhartt and North Face, use palm circumference as the primary sizing measurement.

How to measure: Kay Jewelers recommends measuring your finger at the end of the day when fingers are at their largest. Wrap a thin strip of paper or a piece of string around your finger just below the knuckle (where a ring would sit). Mark where the paper overlaps and measure the length in millimeters. That measurement is your finger circumference — use the table below to find your ring size. If you're between sizes, go up to the next half-size.
